How You Can Help the Library's Fundraising Efforts
FOUNDER'S DAY 2012
This year, the Bethel Public Library celebrated Founder's Day with a flower arranging contest, in honor of Maria Parloa, pictured at left. Miss Parloa began the Bethel Public Library with a bequest of $2,000 to the Town of Bethel in 1909. In addition, she organized the Village Improvement Society and was active in community landscaping projects, planting shrubs, bulbs, and flowers throughout Bethel!
In 1932, Founder's Day was observed by adorning the Library with flower arrangements created by members of the community. In 2012, we had nine beautiful entries to enjoy! View each one, below, and see if you agree with the judges choices.
The Judges: Trisha Lewis, Chair, Bethel Library Board of Directors; Karen DeLeon, President, Bethel Garden Club; Dolores O'Grady, Bethel Garden Club & Professional Flower Arranger.
The Winners: 1st place Jennifer Matlack; 2nd place Gretchen Cosgrove; 3rd place Helen Ingrassia. Honorable mention is Laura Lewis.
